Welcome to Guitar Taught. My name is Geoff. I am a guitarist from Liverpool but from 2003 I have been based in South London Wandsworth where I now live with my girlfriend.

Music has always been in my family. My uncle Les is a Jazz guitarist and my Granma was a pianist. They played together in big bands in the late 40s/50s/60s and 70s. Even my dad can sing well and was offered jobs to sing in bands in Liverpool back when the Beatles where starting out.

It was my uncle who taught me how to play guitar. When I was 14, I went to his house for lessons once a week for over two years. His Son Dave was also an accomplished guitarist who was into rock music. I learnt a lot from just hanging out at the house, listening to all kinds of music.

I have played guitar for years in various Pop/rock and blues bands. I was at Liverpool Sandown music college for two years and after I left- from 1989 to 1991- I became lead guitarist for Liverpool pop band The Miracle Workers. 

The band was successfully managed by the 80s Liverpool legends, A Flock of Seagulls. We toured up and down the country in universities and colleges promoting our single The Poor mans E.P and we supported bands such as Curiosity Killed the Cat. It was a great experience.

Since then I have formed my own bands including Sandbanks laid Bare that I fronted and wrote the songs. The band secured a publishing deal but it split up in 2000 and the deal was not signed. It was a good little band while it lasted. I stopped writing songs for a while and enjoyed just playing guitar in various rock/pop bands including the original London based band Whoosh and most recently Moonsters Blues, which I formed in 2006. This band took me back to my love for Blues music.

Having recently left my full time job working for a small music company, I am now spending my days teaching Guitar full time. It is so rewarding to see students play a piece of music or a riff/song that I have just taught them and just seeing them progress and become accomplished guitarists themselves.
